It’s often said that moving home is one of the most stressful things that you’ll do in life, but if you have long-serving employees in an office that you’ve been in for a while, it can feel like all the emotions tied up with a home move are multiplied by many people with a shared history when you’ve made the decision to move office.
Once you’ve found the right property for your organisation to head to and communicated everything to your team, you’ll no doubt want to make everything as quick and hassle-free as possible – for you and your employees.
With this in mind, there are a few options available when it comes to packing. Strong and heavy duty, crates are a great option which you may be surprised to hear are very secure, as they can be sealed shut, which makes them ideal for any documents that you legally need to ensure that you take with you and keep safe. They also don’t require a huge amount of investment or disposing of after, as you don’t have to buy them, you can hire them from your removal company.
Because of the way that they are made, they can be stacked easily, so if you choose to hire them over a week or longer, you can pack in stages and then stack crates out of the way as you go. They can also be stacked inside each other once you’ve moved, so they are easy to tuck away before being picked up again.
A standard sized plastic crate is 600 x 415 x 330 mm, so can fit in a fair amount. Larger crates, designed to hold a complete computer workstation, are also available, measuring in at 590 x 550 x 600 mm, and come with or without lids. This is a really quick and efficient way to get a whole area packed up and keep it protected in the big move, and then unpacked smoothly at the other end.
In our experience, whether it’s a pile of recycling or packets of soup past its use by date, there is always something in someone’s desk that they just don’t need anymore, so it could be beneficial for employees to have a clear out before relocating. If this isn’t practical, for any reason – like the move needing to be sped up to keep on schedule or productivity is a concern – then your removal company can come and pack everything up, saving your employees a job, and allowing them to get on with other things. This could even happen at the weekend, so that the whole process is as smooth and seamless as possible.
We find crates to be the most efficient way to move most things, but there are, of course, other options available, depending on your needs.
