As the song goes, It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but the lead up to Christmas can also be quite stressful. Throw in a move as well, which is declared to be one of the most stressful life events going, and you may be wondering what you’re putting yourself through.
But it’s going to be ok. If you are thinking of moving in the lead up to the Christmas period, whether it’s your home or your office, there are things that you can put in place to make the whole process easier.
Book your removal company ASAP
As soon as you know your moving date, start getting quotes from removals companies and book who you are happiest with. This will take some of the stress off of your shoulders straight away – especially as this is a time of year when people who you may have called in to help are more likely to be busy.
Pack your presents and decorations last
To get your new place in the festive spirit, you will want to know where your decorations are straight away. It’s easier if you know exactly where they are and have them at the top of the pile. You also don’t want to lose any Christmas presents that you may have bought in a box that you’ll unpack one day, so try to keep everything you’ll need immediately together. It would be even better if you could store any presents at a friend/family home in the lead up to Christmas, rather than move those with you.
Label your boxes
This will make unpacking and prioritising a lot easier, especially if you have Christmas dos to go to and want to look your best. If you will be hosting Christmas, box labelling will also help you to get your kitchen up and running quicker, and your home feeling more festive. No matter what you are up to, anything which can make your move more organised will alleviate some of that predicted stress.
Consider moving after Christmas
If you can move between Christmas and New Year and it won’t affect your chain, you may find that you have greater options for moving dates and times with your preferred providers, and the prices may be a bit cheaper, as they are less in demand.
Prioritise the personal too
Do you have a print that’s been with you since you started your business or first moved home? Or maybe it’s a clock – or a chair? Whatever your item may be, make sure you know where it is so that it’s easier to prioritise for unpacking. Moving over Christmas means that it’s more likely there will be some things which are left until after the more hectic festive season, but if there are items in your life that ground you or bring you joy, it’s worth knowing where they are so you can get them set up straight away, and start feeling more settled in and relaxed.
