If you are using a removals company to move your home or office, you will be asked to have a home removals survey – well, you will if you have picked a good company. But why do you need one and what does it involve?
The main reason to have one is because it will make your move go as smoothly as possible.
It’s an opportunity for the removals company to gain as much information as possible on your property and the items you will need to be moved. This will include assessing the access to your property along with the different rooms – including your loft or basement, cupboards you have forgotten about: anywhere there are items which will need to be moved.
Make sure that you point out any items that are staying, in part so that they don’t get moved, and also so that they don’t get added into your costs (definitely worth remembering!). Also, any that you would like to be treated with particular care, such as anything sentimental, paintings or antiques. The removal company will assess how many items of furniture you have, along with how easy they will be to move in terms of size and weight. They will also ask you about your budget. Don’t be tied into an exact figure as some of the not so great companies may then aim for that figure. Will you need storage? Will any of your furniture need dismantling? Make sure to mention all these things so you can get the move you need and the most accurate quote.
It’s not all about them
Make sure you ask any and as many questions as you have, so that you have a good idea of how your company will work with you and what will be happening on your moving day.
Good questions include asking about insurance and what will be covered, and any other services that you may want to take advantage of. Make sure you get an understanding of timescales and planning, and any preparation that you need to do.
How long will it take?
The time needed to undertake a survey depends on the size of your property. Your removal company will want to make the whole process as quick and easy for you as possible. Depending on the size of your property, it is likely to take around thirty minutes.
What happens after the survey?
Once complete, the removal company worker will take all the information and get back to you with a full quotation. How long this takes will depend on your removal needs in terms of furniture and access, as well as any extra services.
