What’s the best day to move office?

Fast Forward Group Removals van - What’s the best day to move office?

There are many different factors to take into consideration, when thinking about moving office, not least the day that choose to move. Getting your employees on board is a big consideration, and your moving day will have an impact on how the process goes.

I don’t like Mondays…

With this in mind, Mondays are not a great day to move. We all know what it’s like to deal with the Sunday night dread. When Monday morning comes with a huge change to your life and a potentially emotional goodbye, this can be even worse. Moving on a Monday can also impact your work productivity for the rest of the week.

Living for the weekend

In terms of productivity and creating a positive feeling between the past and a new start, the weekend can be a great opportunity to break from the old and embrace the new. If you did decide to go for the weekend, your staff would need to pack up their workspaces by the end of the week and get all their boxes labelled and ready to go (unless your removal company is packing your office up for you).

While your removal team can do most of the work for you, you will want your facility/operations manager to be involved to oversee the move, as well as your IT team, to ensure that your servers are moved properly and securely. In terms of productivity, if you IT team can work over the weekend, and be ready for the rest of your team to get to work on Monday, that’s ideal. Yes, the will take time to get settled in and accustomed to their new space, but it will be far easier on a Monday than any other day of the week.

However, if you have a small office, a Thursday or Friday could also work. The main thing is that you have a proper plan and resources in place – and that you are upholding your responsibilities towards GDPR and security.

Downside of moving at the weekend

If you are hoping for a weekend moving day, then you are significantly reducing the potential availability of the removal company that you’d like to use, and they may be booked up. If you have planned your move far enough in advance, this will be easier to deal with. The same goes with moves at the end of the week.

Of course, you will also need that team of IT people to work the weekend and be back with you on Monday to help people with their new office set up and ensure that everything has gone smoothly. The downside to this may be payment of overtime or the addition of annual leave days.
