Your moving day is finally in sight and goodness knows, after all that paperwork and all those calls, you have had enough to deal with. The heavy lifting doesn’t have to be your problem too. Once you have a date secured, it’s best to get your removal company in place and get ready to go.
If you are moving fairly locally, ideally, you will have spoken to a removal company around 4-6 weeks before your moving date, as it gives the company plenty of time to tailor their services – like how many people they need to have available, how many vans, and any packaging and storage requirements.
However, if you are moving a long distance away, it is best to give as much notice as possible, as there will be more logistical factors at play.
How do you choose a removal company?
Once you’ve secured your new property, you will want to ensure that your possessions arrive there in the best shape possible. With this in mind, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration when looking for a removal company which cover not only the cost, but insurances and reputation.
So let’s start with the cost. If you are moving a business then you will likely need to get at least three quotes to ensure that you have obtained the best deal – so why not treat a home the same? When you get those quotes, it’s not just the price that’s important but what’s included; such as the time allocated, any packaging and storage, as well as anything that the company won’t transport
To ensure a more exact quote, it is best to arrange a home removal survey. This will involve someone from your prospective removal company visiting your property and assessing how many items you have to move and the best way to transport them safely. This assessment will allow them the information to provide you with a more exact estimate.
You may also wish for the removal company to provide you with packaging, which they can add into that quote too. If you don’t want all your items to arrive at your property at the same time, your removal company may provide a storage option, so you can settle in slowly – or if there is a gap in your chain, you have somewhere to store your items while you wait to complete on your new property.
It’s also worth reviewing their insurances, which should be available to you so you can see what you are covered for, should anything go wrong. If the removal company will not provide you with this, it’s best for you to move on to someone else.
Also, check out their reviews. Whether it’s Facebook, Google, CheckaTrade, TrustaTrade or any comparison site, if the company you are thinking of using is well established, something will have been written about them online. Obviously just use these insights to get a feel for the company and take it all with a pinch of salt.
